Reflexology
Why Should I Choose Reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy, based on the idea of balancing the body’s energies through the reflexes in the feet and hands, allowing the body to heal itself. Our feet mirror our body and there are relative reflexes in the feet and hands corresponding to every organ in the body, which a reflexology treatment will massage and manipulate. History of Reflexology Reflexology has been practiced throughout history by a number of different cultures. Early Egyptian, Babylonian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Russian cultures worked on the feet to promote good health. It is also believed that foot reflexology was passed down by the Incas to the American Indians, who used pressure on the feet to assist in healing. The Cherokee Indians of North Carolina have, for centuries, acknowledged the importance of the feet in maintaining physical, mental and spiritual balance. Reflexology was developed in modern times by Dr William Fitzgerald who founded Zone Therapy. He divided the body into zones, creating ten equal longitudinal zones running the full length of the body. His theory was that parts of the body found within a certain zone will be linked with one another by the energy flow within the zone and can therefore affect one another. In the 1930s, Eunice Ingham mapped the entire body onto the feet and discovered that an alternating pressure on the various points had therapeutic effects far beyond the limited use to which Zone therapy had previously been employed, which was the reduction of pain. Modern reflexology took effect from here. Benefits of Reflexology
Take your body on a journey of discovery through your feet! A full reflexology treatment will take approximately 1 hour. The treatment involves a blissful soak in a soothing footbath, the relaxation of both feet and ankles, followed by entire coverage of both feet using pressure point movements and following the ideas of Zone Therapy and Eunice Ingham. An initial observation of the feet will take place, with any problem areas recorded. Any problem areas/ interesting findings discovered throughout the treatment will also be recorded for consideration at the end. End your reflexology experience with a soothing, moisturising application. Restrictions During your reflexology consultation, please be open about your lifestyle as this can help with the analysis. Ensure that you highlight any medical history or current problems to myself as certain conditions will require modification or non-treatment. |
